The Cleveland Heights Municipal Court was established along with other municipal courts, by legislature in 1953 under Chapter 1901.01 of the Ohio Revised Code. The City of Cleveland Heights Court has jurisdiction within the corporate limits of The City of Cleveland Heights and is a court of record.

Generally, it handles traffic and misdemeanor criminal charges arising in The City of Cleveland Heights as well as civil matters arising in this City whose demand for relief does not exceed $15,000. This court also has a small claims division which handles complaints in which the demand for relief does not exceed $6,000.
